Who we are
Liberty Yachts charters yachts in Dubai and the wider United Arab Emirates. We are the controller of the personal data described here.
Office M06, The Arcade, Al Garhoud, Deira, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (PO Box 78599)[email protected]
What we collect
When you send an enquiry
Your phone number, with the country code you chose for it; your name and email address, if you give them; whether you want a day trip or an overnight stay, and for how many nights; the date, start time and length of charter you want; how many guests are coming; and which yacht or itinerary you were looking at. We use the number to reply on WhatsApp or by phone, and the email address, if you gave one, to reply by email. Earlier enquiries may also record a package and any extras you ticked. We also record which page of this site you sent it from, so we know which pages are useful. If you arrived from one of our adverts we record the advert click identifier, the website you followed the link here from and the time you arrived — kept with the enquiry, and removed when it is anonymised.
When you send a message from the contact page
Your message; your email address or phone number, whichever you gave, with the country code you chose for a number; your name, if you give it; and which page you sent it from. We use them to reply, and keep them for the period set out below. We do not record an advert click identifier with a message, and we do not add it to a customer record.
When you tap a WhatsApp button
We record that the button was tapped, which yacht you were looking at, which page you were on, and — if you arrived from one of our adverts — the advert click identifier, the website you followed the link here from and the time you arrived, all taken from the cookie described below and kept with the enquiry. We do not learn your name or your number at this point; neither reaches us until you actually send a message. If no message follows within 30 days, the record of the tap is deleted.
When you message us on WhatsApp
We see your phone number, whatever profile name you have set, and what you write to us. WhatsApp itself is run by Meta and the messages travel over their service under their terms, not ours.
Automatically, when you visit
Your IP address and browser details reach our servers and our security provider as part of loading any web page, and are kept in short-lived logs. If you arrived from one of our Google adverts, the advert click carries an identifier which we store in a cookie — see below.
Cookies
These are the cookies this site sets itself.
| Cookie | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
ly_click |
Remembers the Google advert you arrived from, so that if you enquire three pages later we can tell which advert paid for it. It holds the advert click identifier, the website you followed the link here from, and the time you arrived — the last two so we can spot an advert identifier being copied and circulated by somebody else. It does not hold your name, email address or phone number, it cannot be read by JavaScript, and it is encrypted. | 90 days |
| Session cookie | Keeps your place while you use the site. Strictly necessary. | 120 minutes |
XSRF-TOKEN |
Stops other websites submitting our forms on your behalf. Strictly necessary. | 120 minutes |
These services also run on our pages. Some set their own cookies, which they control rather than us; the rest simply receive your IP address because your browser has to fetch a file from them:
- Google Maps — where a map is shown on our contact page. Sets cookies.
- Vimeo — hosts the videos on our home page. Receives your IP address.
- jsDelivr — delivers part of our video player. Receives your IP address.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — checks that an enquiry or message was sent by a person rather than an automated script. Receives your IP address and information about your browser; sets no advertising cookies.
You can refuse or delete all of these in your browser settings. You can turn off personalised advertising directly with Google and Meta. Refusing the measurement cookies does not stop you enquiring or chartering.
Why we are allowed to use it
- To take steps you asked for. Answering your enquiry, quoting a price and running the charter you booked.
- Because you agreed. Where you ticked a box, you can untick it by telling us — see Your rights below.
- Because we have a legitimate interest. Knowing which of our adverts and pages produce enquiries, checking that an advert click identifier has not been copied and circulated by somebody else, recognising a returning customer before we reply, keeping automated abuse off the site, and telling enquiries sent by a person apart from automated ones when we measure our adverts. A lead created when you tap a WhatsApp button rests on this one, because there is nothing for you to agree to at that moment.
- Because the law requires it. Charter and tax records.
Who we share it with
- The operator of the yacht you charter. They need the lead guest's name, the number of guests and the timing in order to run the trip.
- Google and Meta. Their measurement tags run on our pages and record that a page was viewed and, when you send an enquiry, that one was sent (with our enquiry reference), against their own cookies.
- Our suppliers — website hosting, our security and delivery network, and email — who process data only on our instructions.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
Sending data outside the UAE
Google, Meta and our hosting and security providers operate internationally, so some of the data above is processed outside the United Arab Emirates. We only use providers who commit contractually to protecting it to the standard described here.
How long we keep it
- An enquiry or message that never became a charter: 3 years. Long enough to recognise you if you come back next season and to compare one year against the last.
- If you chartered with us: 5 years from the charter, which is the period UAE tax law requires us to keep the records for.
Changing these periods does not shorten a promise we have already made. We stamp each enquiry with the period published here on the day it arrived, and later changes to the numbers above do not move a stamped record in either direction. Where a record carries no stamp — enquiries we inherited from the previous version of this site, and any we were unable to stamp when they arrived — we keep it for the period shown above as it stands today. If you chartered with us, we keep the record for whichever is longer: the period the law requires at the time, or the period stamped on your enquiry.
After that we anonymise rather than delete: your name, email address, phone number, any message you sent us, any notes we made, and the advertising identifier your visit carried along with the record of where and when that click reached us, are removed — and so is your customer record. What remains is that an enquiry happened, which boat it was about and what it was worth — a record we can no longer connect to you from the information we keep.
Your rights
Under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, stop using it for a particular purpose, or send it to you in a portable form. Where we relied on your agreement, you can withdraw it at any time, and where we relied on a legitimate interest you can object to it.
Write to [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the UAE Data Office.
Children
This site is for adults booking charters. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. Children are welcome aboard as guests of a booking made by an adult.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when what we do changes, and the date at the top always says when. Where a change materially affects data we already hold about you, we will tell you before it takes effect.
